A community celebration is set for Saturday, June 21 as Gallery in the Grove commemorates 45 years of showcasing and supporting local art.
From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., guests are invited to join an afternoon of music, memories, and milestones under the tent at the Bright’s Grove gallery. The open-house style event will feature live music from Tessa Catton and friends, historical scrapbooks, and the chance to connect with artists, volunteers, and friends of the gallery.
A special exhibition in the West Gallery will display 16 space photographs taken by Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield, on loan for the day. The images revisit the gallery’s 25th anniversary celebration, which Hadfield attended in person. The East Gallery will mark the final day of the “Off Your Wall” fundraiser exhibition, while the Bright’s Grove Library launches its summer reading program in coordination with the festivities.
The event is organized by a committee of current, past, and founding board members aiming to honour the gallery’s role in Sarnia-Lambton’s arts and education landscape.
“Becky Sheridan, one of the founding volunteer board members, and other volunteers have spent many hours at the Lambton Room Archives to complete a full exhibition listing beginning in November 1980,” said Kirsten Kilner Holmes, a current board member. “The gallery has hosted over 362 exhibitions, drawing more than 55,000 visitors and supporting local, regional, emerging, and established artists—including Sarnia’s own Chris Hadfield.”
The gallery also recognizes the support of community partners in its arts education programs, including Rotary Club of Sarnia Bluewaterland, Bright’s Grove Optimists, IODE Chapters, The Catherine Wilson Foundation, and numerous individual donors.
