Sarnia is looking to change the rules that prevent recreational vehicles from being parking in the front yard.
Currently, motor homes, boats, and trailers must be parked year-round in a side or rear yard. That can be challenging for many residents and is an ongoing source of friction, city staff says.
The current rule was imposed citywide in 2015 after residents complained their neighbours’ RVs were unsightly, blocked the view, and created a safety hazard.
The new proposal would allow recreational vehicles to be parked in front yard driveways in spring, summer and fall, from May 1 to Oct. 31.
During the winter months, they would be stored in a rear or side yard, or at an off-site storage facility.
A public open house is planned for the main lobby at City Hall on March 26, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Residents can also provide feedback at https://www.speakupsarnia.ca/recreational-vehicle-parking
A decision is expected in May.
