Peacefully, surrounded by loving family on Friday, September 11, 2026, at St Joseph’s Hospice, Hélène Louise Notte (née Lamontagne) passed away at the age of 88.

Beloved and much missed wife of Armando. Loving mother of Richard (Kristine) of Knoxville, Tennessee, Giselle (Tony) of Burlington, and Micheline of Stratford. Cherished grandmother of Arielle and Alex, Julien and Catherine (Kees), godmother of Diana Leidahl (née Bachmann) of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Caroline Coderre of Ottawa and Adrianne Sutherland of Petrolia. Treasured sister-in-law of Pierre Coderre of Gatineau, Sandy and Iris Notte, Monique (Nick†) Varelas and Alain and Tony Notte of Vancouver. Hélène also had cherished living and deceased relatives in Québec and British Columbia. In 1957, barely 19, Hélène earned her Bachelor of Domestic Sciences from Université Laval. She interned as a Dietician at the Montreal General Hospital and was a young bride in Boston in 1960 before settling in Sarnia in 1961, where she became a dietician in the hospital system. The family moved to Europe in 1967 and returned in 1972, growing the network of family and friends. As a skilled domestic arts mom, she kept the kids always looking good, studying hard and loved to entertain.

Hélène became politically active in Catholic and French Education. She will be remembered as a trailblazer, serving as an early Francophone Trustee in the Lambton County Roman Catholic Separate School Board. Her tenure saw the 1984 achievement to fully fund Catholic Education in Ontario. She was a prime mover in the inception of École Saint Francois Xavier, Sarnia’s French Catholic Secondary School, founded in 1987.
Above all, family and friends meant the most to Hélène. Her greatest memories were made with Armando, her children, grandchildren, extended family and dear friends. She loved cottaging at Lac Rita, Québec, and made many trips to be with family in Vancouver. She enjoyed travelling the world with Armando and often with a collection of geographically dispersed lifelong friends.
