Peacefully, surrounded by loving family on Sunday, October 25th, 2026, at St. Joseph Hospice, Rita Lorraine Damoiseaux passed from life on earth to life with Jesus at the age of 77.
Loving wife of John for 43 years. Loving mother of Elise (Sean) Chamberlin, Leila (Jason) Webb, and Kiana Damoiseaux. Cherished grandmother to Ronin, Jaina, Laken, and Maeva. Treasured sister-in-law of Gène, Frans, Riet (Hennie), Ger, and Peter (Monique), dear aunt to Zeno and Isy, all in the Netherlands; also survived by several cherished cousins in western Canada and many friends. Predeceased by her parents Percy and Dorothy Hunt, her sister Marylin, and in-laws Matthew and Gerardien Damoiseaux.
Rita was born in Winnipeg, MB and raised in Inwood, MB. The family moved to Atikokan, Ontario, where she attended high school as an honours student. She then attended Lakehead University where she again graduated with an honours degree in English. She was then hired by the Lambton County Board of Education where she taught English for 30 years in Sarnia and Petrolia. In retirement she started volunteering with her church, monthly serving meals at the Inn of the Good Shepherd and manning the salvation Army kettles.
She was a fervently praying mom for her children and grandchildren with ‘Moms in Prayer’. Rita also enjoyed sailing from Sarnia yacht club for many years with her husband and family, riding her recumbent trike on the trails in Point Edward and traveling.
Family and friends will be received at Trinity Anglican Church, 1194 Murphy Road, Sarnia, Ontario on Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Inn of the Good Shepherd or St. Joseph’s Hospice (cheques only at the funeral home please).
