After a 2-year courageous battle with cancer, Barbara Ruth Haight passed away at home, on Monday, March 17, 2025, at the age of 73. Predeceased by her parents Norma and Don VanDerVeeken, sister Connie, brother-in-law Walter Hughson, nephew Levi Hughson and mother and father-in-law Victoria and William Haight. Barb is survived by her husband Mark Haight and their beautiful son (Sharr), siblings; Dennis (Nancy) VanDerVeeken, Angela (Denny) Spitzig, Dawn Hughson, Jennifer (Scott) Park, in-laws; Bill Haight, Bonnie (Ed) Louks, Dan (Carol) Haight and Torie (Mark) Smith. She will be lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and lifelong friends. Barb was also a proud grandma and great grandma and will be greatly missed also by her little companion Tito Bandito. For over 45 years, Barb was an exceptional hairstylist, known for her skill and passion. She spent many joyful years on the ball diamond, playing alongside family and friends, creating cherished memories. Barb also had a love for Bingo, was a remarkable chef, and took great pride in her flourishing gardens—her green thumb was undeniable. She lived life to the fullest with unwavering strength and determination, always surrounding herself with the people she loved. We feel incredibly grateful to have recently celebrated Barb’s 73rd birthday with her—a day made even more special as she shared it with her beloved little sister. Cremation has taken place. A private graveside will be held. A celebration of Barb’s life will be held on Saturday, March 29th from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Stokes Inland – Side Pockets, 1202 Lambton Mall Rd, Sarnia. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to Sarnia and District Humane Society (cheques only at the funeral home please). Arrangements entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.
