With love and sadness, we announce the passing of Alfred Edward Hannahson on October 24th, 2026.

Affectionately known as Al, he lived a life filled with family, friendship, community involvement, and many cherished memories.

Al had a lifelong passion for photography and business, beginning his working career at just 16 years old as a delivery boy for Potter and Shaw. His dedication and entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish a photo counter in the original drugstore. The counter eventually grew into The Photoshop, a separate photographic retail company of Potter and Shaw. Later Al started his own business, Hannahson Photo, located in St. Catharines.

Al was deeply involved in his community, serving as a former City Councillor for the City of St. Catharines, Past President of the Niagara Grape and Wine Festival, and a member of The Rotary Club of St. Catharines as well as The St Catharines Jaycees. He was also a longtime member of First United Church in St. Catharines.

Outside of his professional and community commitments, Al enjoyed spending time on the golf course with the Larga Golf Group and treasured his time at Ipperwash Beach. Above all, he valued the friendships and memories made along the way.

Al was the loving father of Ted (Marnie), Shelley (late Sean), and Kristie. Proud grandfather of Cooper (Michelle), Easton (deceased), Tytan (Emily), Reid (Brooke), Georgia, Jillian, Emily, Spencer, and Chloe, and cherished great-grandfather of Ivy. He will also be lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Al was predeceased by his beloved wife, Judy (July 2026).

The family would like to sincerely thank the nursing and medical team at Bluewater Health – Sarnia for their compassion, care, and support during this time.

A joint funeral service to honour and celebrate both Al and Judy will be held, with details below.

In honour of Al’s memory, donations may be made to the Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre.

Family and friends are invited to share a memory, story, or message of condolence on the Tribute Wall.
