The naming process was launched as a community contest, inviting suggestions that reflect the culture, history, and spirit of Aamjiwnaang. The subdivision represents an ongoing effort to expand local housing options, and the street name will serve as a lasting marker of community identity.
The following names are shortlisted for consideration:
- Yellowman Lane
- Tiny Lane
- Ray Rogers Lane
- Ezgaag Miikaan (Woodtick Road)
- Screaming Eagle Lane
- Wiigiwaam Way
- Mashkiki Ave
- Chiefs Road
- Miigize Drive
- Nahmabin Way
- Tobacco Road
- Giizhik Miikana (Cedar Road)
- Wolf Street
- Coyote Lane
Band members have been invited to select their preferred choice through an online survey. The name that receives the most community support will be officially assigned to the new roadway, and the person who originally submitted it will receive a gift card.
The original contest invited residents of all ages to propose names, along with a brief explanation of their meaning and personal contact information. The call emphasized creativity, culture, and the importance of choosing a name that will carry significance for future generations.
