spsmediarelease2

On April 5 at 8:15 pm, police were called to Centennial Park for a disturbance and possible stabbing.  Investigation revealed that a 19-year-old man had been set upon and assaulted by several individuals.  He was knocked to the ground where the primary suspect punched and kicked him in the head multiple times.  Bystanders intervened and pulled the attackers off the victim.  The suspect and other involved individuals fled on foot.

The 19-year-old suffered facial lacerations and treated by ambulance at the scene.  He was later transported to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.  Initial reports that someone had been stabbed were unfounded.

A 16-year-old Sarnia youth was later arrested at his residence and charged with assault causing bodily harm.  He was released on a police undertaking.  His identity is being withheld pursuant to the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The investigation is continuing.
