A plane crash that killed a 65-year-old Sarnia man on Sept. 3 occurred after one of the aircraft’s wings came off, Sarnia Police say.

Keith Murray was flying the ultralight by himself that morning north of London Line near Brigden Road when the plane was seen spiralling into a cornfield.

Transport Canada Safety Board investigators are trying to determine why the wing separated from the aircraft and removed several items from the wreckage site for further examination in Toronto.

Murray was a retired father, grandfather, past president of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and a proud member of the crew that recently restored the F86 Sabre fighter jet located in Germain Park.
