Kiwanis Golden K announces November speakers on schools, remembrance and service

The club’s Tuesday morning program will cover a school Christmas gift project, local wartime service, the Baha’i faith and partnerships supporting elementary students.

School partnerships, wartime remembrance and community service are on the Kiwanis Club of Sarnia-Lambton Golden K’s speaker schedule for November.

The club meets Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. in the Kiwanis Room at the Lochiel Kiwanis Community Centre, 180 College Ave. N. Meetings also offer a Zoom option, according to the club’s Oct. 29 release.

On Nov. 3, P.E. McGibbon School teacher Heather Moran will discuss a Christmas gift program she organizes with educational assistant Diana Doornbush. Students can purchase donated items for $1 to give to family members, with proceeds supporting local charities’ Christmas expenses, the club said.

Gord MacKenzie, president of the Plympton-Wyoming Museum, will speak Nov. 10 about local people who served Canada in wartime, ahead of Remembrance Day.

On Nov. 17, Jim Ferguson will introduce the Baha’i faith and discuss its shared community-service goals with Kiwanis.

Cathcart Public Elementary School principal Jen Gilpen will speak Nov. 24 about a decade of partnerships with Kiwanis clubs, including assemblies, math tutoring and support for student snack programs.
