Rowena Ann Fallon-Smith passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Hospice in Sarnia, Ontario, at the age of 93.
Born in Windsor, Ontario, Rowena was raised in Charing Cross and later made her home in Chatham following her marriage, where she built a life centered on family and love. In her later years, she resided at The Oaks Retirement Village and most recently at North Lambton Lodge in Forest, Ontario.
After graduating from Ursuline College, CVS, and O’Neil Business College, Rowena worked at several businesses in Chatham. She was employed as a bookkeeper at Joe Johns Venetian Blind Co., sold tickets at the Chatham Memorial Arena, and worked as a teletypist at Crothers Corporation and International Harvester. She also held positions with Ross Insurance Agencies as a secretary.
Rowena was a devoted member of her community and her faith. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League for over 60 years at St. Ursula’s Church and Blessed Sacrament Church. She also gave generously of her time as a volunteer, working three days a week for more than 24 years at the St. Vincent de Paul Store, and later volunteering for two years at the Bibles for Missions Thrift Store.
Rowena was the beloved wife of J. Donald Smith, with whom she shared 72 wonderful years of marriage. She was a loving and devoted mother to Jim (Cilla), Tim (Donna), and was predeceased by her sons Dave (2023) (Patty) and Dennis (2011) (Josephine).
She was the proud grandmother of 12 and great-grandmother of 18, each of whom brought her immense joy.
Rowena was the eldest in her family and is survived by her brother, Pat Fallon. She was predeceased by her parents, Mike Fallon Sr. and Loyola (Doyle) Fallon, as well as her siblings Rosemary, Michael Jr., and Jayne. She was also the great-niece of Michael Francis Fallon, Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of London, Ontario.
Rowena lived with a zest for life that was impossible to miss. Always ready for an adventure, she embraced each experience with enthusiasm, bringing lightness to any moment with her sense of humor. Her ready smile was one of her most memorable gifts, leaving a lasting impression on everyone.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Oaks Retirement Village in Wallaceburg, Ontario, at 2:00 p.m. All who knew and loved Rowena are welcome to attend and offer their condolences.
