Local tennis players shone at the 61st annual Francis J. Robinson Memorial Tournament in Port Huron.
Twenty-seven athletes from Sarnia-Lambton were among 275 participants at this year’s ‘Robinson,’ which is one of the longest running community tennis tournaments in the U.S. and the highlight of the area summer tennis calendar.
Eight of them won their events, nine reaching the finals and 16 made it to the semi-finals.
Sarnia’s Ryan Davies was one of two players at the tournament to claim a coveted ‘Triple Crown’ by winning the boys’ 15s singles, 15s mixed doubles, and boys’ 15s doubles events.
Andrew Davies claimed the Mike Clary Junior Tennis Award, awarded annually to a junior player, typically a graduating senior, who exemplifies dedication to the game, a strong work ethic and good sportsmanship.
