Sarnia Sting sign top import pick Simon Katolicky

Sarnia Sting sign Czech forward Simon Katolicky, a top NHL Draft prospect, ahead of the 2026-27 OHL season.

The Sarnia Sting have signed Czech forward Simon Katolicky to an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement, adding one of the organization’s top import selections ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Katolicky, a six-foot-four, 198-pound left-shot forward from Havlickuv Brod, Czechia, was selected by the Sting in the first round, 11th overall, in the 2025 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft.

The 17-year-old spent the 2025-26 season with Tappara U20 in Finland, where he recorded six goals and 11 assists for 17 points in 29 games.

Katolicky is considered a notable prospect for the 2026 NHL Draft. He is ranked 21st among international skaters by NHL Central Scouting and is expected to attend the NHL Scouting Combine ahead of the draft later in June.

Internationally, Katolicky has represented Czechia several times, including at the 2026 IIHF U18 Men’s World Championship, where he helped his country capture a bronze medal.

Sarnia fans may also remember Katolicky from the 2024 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, which was hosted in Sarnia. His performance at that tournament helped put him on the Sting’s radar as a player with size, skating ability and offensive upside.

The Sting said Katolicky’s combination of size, speed and skill made him a priority target in the import draft. The organization expects him to bring a strong offensive presence, an ability to create chances in transition and the physical frame needed to adjust to the Ontario Hockey League.

Sting general manager Dylan Seca has described Katolicky as a dynamic forward who can push the pace, find open ice and become an important piece of the club moving forward.

Katolicky is expected to join the Sting ahead of training camp and the 2026-27 OHL season.
