A Jane’s Walk is set for Thursday, June 12 at 5:30 p.m., offering a chance for the public to weigh in on the future of Mitton Street between Wellington and George. The street is scheduled for reconstruction, and organizers hope to gather input that reflects the community’s needs and priorities.

Jane’s Walks are free, citizen-led walking tours that invite people to explore their neighbourhoods and take part in conversations about local issues. Inspired by urbanist and writer Jane Jacobs, they are held in cities around the world as a way to support community connection and grassroots planning.

Participants are asked to meet at the Mitton Village Parkette, beside Treat Yourself Wellness. From there, the group will walk the area and take part in an open conversation about what works, what doesn’t, and what could be improved.

The event is hosted by nuSarnia, a local group focused on creating more welcoming streets and connected neighbourhoods. Feedback gathered during the walk will be compiled and submitted to the City of Sarnia as part of the public engagement process for the Mitton Street reconstruction.

“There’s a lot of history in this area, and a lot of potential. We want to hear from people who care about it,” organizers said.

Anyone who lives, works, shops, bikes, or passes through Mitton Village is encouraged to take part and share their perspective.

The event is free and open to all. To RSVP or learn more, visit nusarnia.org/janes-walk.
