One man has been taken into custody following what police called a 'high-risk incident' that closed a portion of Exmouth Street Monday afternoon.

"The Sarnia Police Emergency Response Team has successfully taken a male suspect into custody in connection with an incident that occurred in the 800 block of Exmouth Street earlier today," police stated in an updated news release Monday. "Following the swift and coordinated efforts of the Sarnia Police Service, the situation has been resolved, and there is no longer a concern for public safety in the area."

Police had previously urged the public to avoid the area, after a 'high-risk incident' prompted a temporary road closure to all vehicle and foot traffic.

In an earlier social media post just after 1 p.m., Monday, police were asking residents to avoid the area of Exmouth Street, from Trillium to the 402 offramp, “due to an active weapons investigation.”

Police also issued a release Monday about an overnight stabbing that occurred shortly after midnight at an Exmouth St. residence. Police haven't said if the incidents are related.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sarnia Police Service at 519-344-8861.
