Marilyn Gladu has secured a fourth term in Parliament, winning 53.3% of the vote in Sarnia–Lambton–Bkejwanong, a riding expanded in this election to include Walpole Island (Bkejwanong), Watford, Brooke-Alvinston, and Florence. Gladu received 40,365 votes — a strong lead over Liberal candidate George Vandenberg, who finished with 28,553 votes (37.7%).

“So grateful for the opportunity. It was quite a ride,” Vandenberg told The Journal following the results.

New Democratic Party candidate Lo-Anne Chan placed third with 4,037 votes, capturing 5.3% of the vote. Brian Everaert of the People’s Party received 1,125 votes (1.5%), while Libertarian candidate Jacques Y Boudreau followed with 970 votes (1.3%). Mark Lamore of the Christian Heritage Party secured 431 votes (0.6%), and Tony Mitchell of the Rhinocéros Party received 195 votes (0.3%).

The riding saw a voter turnout of 71.05%, with 75,676 ballots cast from a pool of just over 106,500 registered electors.

This election was the first under the riding’s new boundaries, which added approximately 20,000 voters to the former Sarnia–Lambton district. Gladu, who was first elected in 2015, is a professional chemical engineer and has held various roles within the Conservative Party, including critic for science and innovation and chair of the Standing Committee on the Status of Women.

While she has served in several shadow cabinet positions and on multiple parliamentary committees, Gladu has not held a cabinet position during her tenure in Parliament.

With the Liberal Party forming a minority government under Prime Minister Mark Carney, Gladu returns to Ottawa as part of the opposition benches.
