More important than a candidates platform

A reader urges voters to weigh civility and respect for differing views when choosing a mayor and councillors.

As I listen to candidates addressing important issues and concerns I very much hope that, if elected, they will be able to work together on Council in a civil and respectful way.

In looking for a mayor or councilor, we need candidates who are not judgmental of others and their opinions and ideas. In recent years we have witnessed the toxicity that has too often disrupted council meetings and been offensive to council members. We don't need someone who is going to put others down and be intolerant of other viewpoints.

So I encourage everyone to think twice before voting for someone like that.
