It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William “Bill” Kapteyn on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at the age of 85.
Bill was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and a man whose quiet kindness touched the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. His life was defined not by grand gestures or recognition, but by his unwavering love for his family, his steadfast faith, and his genuine desire to serve others.
Bill was the beloved husband of the late Jenny Irene Kapteyn (née Tensen), with whom he shared 57 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a beautiful life centered on faith, family, and love. Perhaps no greater testament to Bill’s character was his extraordinary devotion to Jenny during the final years of her life, when her health declined and illness became an increasingly difficult part of their journey together. Throughout those challenging years, Bill remained faithfully by her side, providing unwavering love, comfort, and care. His quiet strength and selfless dedication reflected the depth of their love and the promises they had made to one another so many years before.
Bill was the cherished father of Sonya (David) Robertson, Yolanda (James) Campbell, William (Melissa) Kapteyn, and Julianna (Ian) Robertson. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Emma, Callum, Madeline, Cameron, Owen, Rachel, Claire, Finnan, Isla, Paxton, and Rylee, and a beloved great-grandfather to Brooks. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild were the center of his world, and he found his greatest happiness in the love and time he shared with his family.
Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jenny, his brother, Peter Kapteyn, and his sisters, Mary and Judy. He is survived by his siblings, Erie, Lex, and Margo.
As the owner of a custom home construction company, Bill dedicated his professional life to building homes for others. He approached his work with care, integrity, and a commitment to excellence. Yet, of all the homes he built, the most meaningful was the loving home he and Jenny created for their family.
A faithful member of First Christian Reformed Church in Sarnia, Bill lived his Christian faith through his actions. He was a man of few words but immense compassion, whose humility, generosity, and gentle nature spoke volumes. He never sought attention or praise, finding fulfillment instead in helping others and caring for those he loved.
Although his family and friends will miss him dearly, they find comfort in their faith and in the hope of Bill’s reunion with his beloved Jenny. His legacy lives on through the family he cherished, the countless lives he touched, and the example of love, faithfulness, and selflessness he leaves behind.
Bill will be remembered not only for the homes he built, but for the love he gave, the lives he enriched, and the family that was always his greatest accomplishment.
