Sarnia-Lambton has three new COVID-19 cases, two of them employees of senior homes, Lambton Public Health said this morning.
A staff member at Lambton Meadowview Villa has tested positive, and people living in the Petrolia long-term care home and their families were notified Monday.
The employee last worked there May 19 and has not come in contact with other staff or residents since becoming symptomatic, Lambton County said.
A staff member of Meadowview was also infected last month. That outbreak was contained and declared over April 23.
The health unit said another worker at Sarnia’s Vision Nursing Home has tested positive, bringing the number of employees who have contracted the virus to 20. The disease has impacted 22 residents of the home, and six have died.
Sarnia-Lambton has had a total 251 cases and 21 deaths.
The situation at Bluewater Health remains stable. The number of coronavirus patients being treated in hospital has ranged from four to five for 12 straight days.
Meanwhile, Sarnia said Monday its bylaw enforcement officers will be visiting trails, parks and beaches to help educate the public about COVID-19, and how to prevent its spread.
Ontario’s emergency orders have been extended to May 29, including restrictions on physical gatherings of more than five people.
The city has cut programs and services to offset declining revenue, including the hiring of student and seasonal staff to maintain public spaces.
While parks, beaches and trails are open for use, maintenance of washrooms and garbage receptacles remains limited, the city said.
Two park washrooms are open, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., seven days a week.
One is located near the Children’s Animal Farm at Canatara Park, the other beside to the Suncor Agora Stage in Centennial Park.
