City’s brush policy annoying

Sir: Many times I have written letters to the editor of The Sarnia Journal but haven’t sent them. Tonight, I am really annoyed.

We are getting rid of many very old sickly bushes and trees on our property. So I looked at the 2020 Waste/Recycle/Compost Calendar and found out there is only one brush pickup left in 2020, and it’s the week of Nov. 22-28.

The only other brush pickups were in May and June.

What really annoyed me is the fact the Compost Site at 379 St. Andrew St. is now open Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for waste drop off.

The site was formerly only open, as I remember, on Wednesday and Saturday. Why does it need to be open all week?

The brochure states, "Payment Only by Credit/Debit Card for brush drop off." No mention of the cost.

If we are bringing the brush to the city, why is there a charge? Especially since they turn it into mulch and wood chips they sell to others to make money.

We did brush drop-offs a few years ago, and there was no issue and no money exchanged.

City Hall needs to look at the current contract. Do we really need a compost site manned Monday to Saturday, which then takes our money?

Message for ‘selfish’ anti-maskers

Sir: This is for anti-maskers: what good are your human "rights" if you or someone dies from being exposed to Covid-19 by people like you who do not wear masks because of your selfish ways of thinking?

Think again.
