Local health-care workers not receiving Ontario’s $4-an-hour pandemic pay premium held a rally at Bluewater Health Wednesday to protest their exclusion.

“All of our hospital professionals are working side-by-side with everyone that is in receipt of the pandemic pay,” said organizer and pharmacy technician June Weiss.

“They are definitely front line. They’re all the hospital professionals behind the scene, and they deserve this.”

Weiss said about 300 Bluewater Health imaging, lab, social work, pharmacy, rehabilitation and dietary unionized workers missed out on the wage bump-up provided other health-care workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

A petition was presented to Sarnia-Lambton MPP Bob Bailey and it was twice read in provincial parliament twice, Weiss said.
