Copper thieves caused a power outage earlier today that left businesses at Eastland Plaza without electricity for 12 hours, Sarnia Police say.
City firefighters responded to an electrical fire at an outdoor hydro compound behind 260 Indian Rd. S. shortly before 1 a.m. and found it had been vandalized.
Thieves had cut through razor wire and forced entry into two separate secure compounds, and then cut and removed a quantity of copper wire from the transformers, police said.
A “significant” amount of wire was stolen and it resulted in a power outage at the plaza.
