The Sarnia Sting have signed Slovakian prospect Roman Kukumberg to an Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Standard Player Agreement, the club announced this week.

A native of Bratislava, Slovakia, Kukumberg was selected by the Sting 43rd overall in the 2023 Canadian Hockey League (CHL) Import Draft.

Kukumberg, 18, tallied six goals and eight assists for a total of 14 points through 38 regular season games played with the Slovan Bratislava team in the SvkE this season.

The left-shooting winger also represented Slovakia in multiple international tournaments over the last two seasons.

Most recently, Kukumberg tallied one goal and three assists through seven games played in the 2023 U18 World Hockey Championships.

"We are thrilled to get all the paperwork completed and to officially welcome Roman to the Sarnia Sting,” said general manager Dylan Seca. “Sting fans will like his work ethic and competitiveness, it fits the type of team we are building here in Sarnia.”

Training camp opens in late August as part of preparations for the 2023-24 OHL season, set to start on Friday, September 29 when the Sting host the Windsor Spitfires at Progressive Auto Sales Arena. Sting fans can secure their season seats now by visiting the Mainstreet Credit Union Box Office or by purchasing tickets online at tickets.sarniasting.com.
