A Sarnia Sting forward is now a member of the Carolina Hurricanes.

Jamieson Rees has signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the NHL club.

“Jamieson is a skilled center with strong playmaking ability,” said Hurricane’s GM Don Waddell. “He made major strides in his development last season, and we’re looking forward to his next steps.”

Rees, 19, was drafted by the Hurricanes in the second round, 44th overall, of the 2019 NHL Draft.

The 182-pound Hamilton native had 61 points in 39 games during the 2019-20 with the Sting. He tied for fourth in the Ontario Hockey League in shorthanded goals and 11th in points per game last season.

He had 113 points in 122 career OHL games with Sarnia.

Rees represented Canada at the 2019 IIHF World Under-18 Championships and had eight points in seven games.
