Pickleball club to host inaugural tournament

The Sarnia Lambton Pickleball Club (SLPC) will host its inaugural tournament at Lambton College May 3-5.

The ‘Spring Smash’ tournament will feature men’s, women’s, mixed doubles divisions, with a range of levels from 2.5 to 4.0, organizers said.

“The popularity of pickleball is undeniable,” said James Grant, manager of athletics at Lambton College. “We’ve seen a dramatic increase in interest in the sport within the Lambton College community, so we’re thrilled to serve as host for this tournament.

“We look forward to not only hosting this event, but supporting the Sarnia Lambton Pickleball Club in more of their upcoming endeavours.”

The event will be held at the Cestar Recreation and Wellness Center, with participants expected to travel from Windsor to Kitchener, organizers added.

Registration is now open at www.pickleballbrackets.com.

Funds raised from the three-day event will go to help build the SLPC’s permanent home — with plans for a permanent facility including both indoor and outdoor courts.
