The Lambton College Women’s Basketball Program won its first-ever OCAA gold on home court Sunday in a 78-56 win over the Algonquin Wolves.

The Lambton College Women’s Basketball Program won its first-ever OCAA gold on home court Sunday in a 78-56 win over the Algonquin Wolves.

The Lambton Lions played host for the Women’s Basketball Championships Final Four at the Cestar Group Athletics & Fitness Complex March 2 and 3.

On Saturday, Lambton defeated Niagara 65-50 to earn their spot in the gold medal game against the previously undefeated Wolves.

Head Coach Janine Day and the Lions earned a 14-2 record in the regular season to secure the program’s first West Division title. The Lions earned OCAA silver during the 2022-23 season.

Three Lambton players were also named to the OCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament All-Star Team: Breanna Pretty (MVP), Maddy Bishop, and Legacie Blackbird.

The national championships will be held March 13-16 at Alberta’s Lakeland College where Lambton will move on to compete for a Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) banner.

This marked the first time the Women’s Basketball program hosted the provincial championship, and the second time in the last four years that Lambton has hosted a basketball provincial championship inside the Cestar Group Athletics & Fitness Complex, the college noted. Lambton College last hosted the 2020 OCAA Men’s Basketball Championship.
