The Mooretown Jr. Flags U9 MD1 team won gold at the Doug Jarrett Memorial Tournament held in London over the weekend.

The event, one of the largest U9MD to U18 A/BB tournaments in southwestern Ontario, is named after Jarrett — the first London-born NHL player — who passed away in 2014.

The Jr. Flags fell 6-8 to the Woolwich Wildcats in tournament round robin play, but not before defeating the Oakridge Aeros (15-0), the West London Jr. Hawks (11-0) and the Kitchener Jr. Rangers (5-3).

The team moved on to a thrilling, semi-final overtime win over the Hamilton Huskies (5-4) before taking gold in the championship game, defeating the Wildcats 4-2.
