Girls’ travel fastball is returning to Sarnia.

After years of planning, organizing and finalizing details, the Sarnia Minor Athletic Association (SMAA) and Sarnia Heat Girls Fastball Association is ready to launch the 2023 season — offering travel fastball for female players based out of Sarnia for the first time in decades — joining the Lambton Central Girls’ Softball League (LCGSL).

“After attending league meetings, organizing umpires, reserving diamonds, selecting uniforms, ordering equipment, and fine-tuning all details, the association is ready to move forward,” a news release noted.

“We are excited to provide this opportunity for fastball players in the Sarnia area,” said SMAA President Lynn LeFaive. “There are so many talented players in and around our community and we want them to have the opportunity to showcase their skills against other talented athletes.”

Any female player ages six to 19, residing in Lambton County, can join a travel Sarnia

team, she said, adding that they’re offering U9, U13, U17, and U19 teams.

“But we can increase the number of teams depending on registration numbers.”

The LCGSL is comprised of teams throughout Lambton County, including Corunna, Camlachie, Wyoming, Wilkesport, Enniskillen, Port Lambton, Alvinston, and others.

“We are delighted to welcome Sarnia to the league,” said LCGSL president Todd Mackenzie. “Increasing the number of teams is a great opportunity for more players to play travel fastball and to play on different diamonds in other communities.”

Sarnia will still continue to offer house league fastball, Sarnia Heat Girls Fastball Chairman Aaron Zimmer noted.

“We have enough players in the area to accommodate travel and house league fastball.”

More information on both travel and house league fastball in Sarnia is available at

Coaches are needed for all teams. Non-parent coaches are welcome to apply.

Registration is now open and closes February 28th for Travel and March 31 for House

League.
