A 25-year-old woman was charged with impaired driving after police were called to a collision at Queen Street and Confederation Street in Sarnia over the weekend.

Sarnia Police say the incident occurred around 1:37 a.m. when police responded to the scene, where a car had struck a utility pole ‘with significant force, by driving in reverse.’

"The vehicle unsuccessfully attempted to flee the scene, with damaged parts of the vehicle sparking along the roadway,” a news release stated.

“Sarnia Police officers located and stopped the vehicle with female driver still behind the wheel. Odour and evidence of alcohol consumption, along with obvious physical signs of impairment, were observed.”

The driver was arrested and transported to the Sarnia Police Station for breath samples, where testing revealed a blood alcohol concentration of more than two times the legal limit, police added.

The driver has been charged with impaired driving and over .08.
