LETTER: City should reconsider 'waste of resources' at shelter

I was happy to read that the city came up with a suitable resolution to open River City Vineyard's homeless shelter, but I can't help but scratch my head at the ridiculousness of needing "to contract a service to respond to emergency calls, in addition to security already hired."

Isn't that what 9-1-1 is for?  

To think that any of us who donate to this worthy cause have our hard earned dollars going to pay for such an unnecessary and ridiculous service makes me question the competency of those that mandated this.

I'm sure they are just following rules, but this is another glaring example of safety going overboard. I really hope they reconsider this waste of resources.
