Woman assaulted while walking dogs; police searching for suspect

Sarnia Police

Police are investigating another unprovoked assault after a woman was struck in the face while walking her dogs in Sarnia.

The incident occurred Saturday March 30 around 8:30 p.m. when a 57-year-old woman was walking her dogs near the intersection of Napier and Durand Streets, Sarnia Police said in a news release.

“As the female was stopped to pick up her dog’s stool, an unknown party, completely unprovoked, struck her from behind in the face, twice, with a closed fist,” police said, adding that “an accurate description of the suspect has not been ascertained at this time.”
The female victim suffered bruising and headaches as a result of the assault.

This marks the second unprovoked assault of this nature in the last month, police noted, pointing to a March 10 incident in which a 66-year-old man was attacked from behind while walking on the sidewalk near Talfourd and Queen Streets. A 16-year-old was later arrested in connection to the incident.

Anyone with information or video footage from a home surveillance system or a dash camera is asked to contact Det. Constable Shawn Munro at (519) 344-8861 x6179; or Crime Stoppers at 519-332-TIPS (8477) or via www.p3tips.com.
