A suspect vehicle has been located following a hit-and-run collision with a cyclist last Friday, police say.
In a social media post Wednesday morning, West Region OPP noted that the “combined efforts between Sarnia Police and Lambton OPP and tips from the public,” resulted in locating a suspect vehicle. A Lambton OPP spokesperson said the investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been laid.
Photos provided to The Journal show a white Sentry Fire truck with black racing stripes and front-end damage being towed from downtown Sarnia earlier this week. Lambton OPP have confirmed that is the vehicle of interest in the investigation.An original social media post late Saturday by the OPP appealed for witnesses to a hit-and-run near Lakeshore and Mandaumin in Sarnia. No other details were provided at the time.
The Journal has learned that local cyclist Allan Ross was struck while riding near Lakeshore and Mandaumin roads around 8:30 p.m. Friday.
He was airlifted to London where he underwent surgery for injuries that included a fractured pelvis and spine. He also suffered bruised kidneys and broken teeth. He was wearing a helmet.
Ross had recently been participating in the Great Cycle Challenge to raise money for the SickKids Foundation, riding more than 604km and raising $1,000 according to his fundraising page.
While no vehicle description was provided by police, social media users were quick to spread the word about a suspected “white pickup truck with black racing stripes,” as described by the victim’s friends and family.
A comment from one user says he spotted the truck in Sarnia's downtown and called Sarnia Police.
