A 39-year-old Sarnia man was arrested and faces several charges after police say a victim had a gun held to his head while fishing along the waterfront this week.

The incident occurred on July 26 when a Sarnia man, while fishing near Ferry Dock Hill, was approached by an unknown suspect who ‘attempted to initiate an unsolicited conversation,’ police said.

“When the victim would not engage, the suspect suddenly produced a handgun and pointed it directly at the victim’s head,” a news release noted.

“A short exchange of words took place and the suspect fled the area.”

The victim did not sustain any physical injuries, and police were called to investigate.

Officers with the Street Crime Unit quickly identified and arrested the suspect, police added.

“Upon arrest it was revealed that the suspect was already subject to a release order for multiple previous charges, including conditions to not possess any firearms (or imitations of firearms).”

He has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

1. Fail to comply with release order 2. Pointing a Firearm 3. Possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose 4. Carrying a concealed weapon 5. Assault with a weapon

He was held in custody for a bail hearing and remanded into custody.

The weapon in this offence has not been recovered. Any one with information is asked to contact the Sarnia Police Service Street Crime Unit or to remain anonymous Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
