A group of local students had a successful showing at the Canada Wide Science Fair held in Ottawa recently.

Cyndi Rayson won a Silver Award for her project ‘Washing Away our Environment: An Environmental Analysis of Laundry Detergent.’

Riley Edmunds of Errol Village Public School also won a Silver award for his project ‘Breaking the Ice: Measuring the environmental impacts of road ice removal substances,’ and Mustafa Arif, also from Errol Village, won a Bronze Award for his project, ‘Thoughts to Text: A novel approach to BCI’s.’ Also participating was Northern Collegiate Gr.11 student Tej Patel with his project ‘Heartbeat of Health: Implementing Machine Learning for Early Detection and Mitigation of Heart Disease.’

“The Science Fair Organizing Committee are delighted by both the increase in projects at this year’s fair and the results of those students who competed against 385 bright, young scientists in the Canada Wide event,” committee member Peter Smith said in a news release. “We congratulate them all.

“The committee would also like to thank our volunteers (judges etc.) and sponsors. We couldn’t do this without your support.”
