Hundreds flocked to Sarnia’s Tecumseh Park Saturday for the inaugural Tecumseh Skate Jam — which boasted a full slate of live music, food, vintage vendors from the Mitton Market, and of course, skateboarding.
The event, dubbed ‘Lights on the Bowl’ was a collaboration between local citizens and small businesses in Sarnia’s Mitton Village, aiming to celebrate recent upgrades to the skate park.
The main objective, organizers said, was to bring people out to spend the day and share the new facility.
The south Sarnia park recently underwent upgrades, including improvements to the Norma Cox Youth Centre, playground equipment, pool and splash pad.
“I was taken aback by the beauty of this park filled with layers of people using the awesome facilities,” said Josh Walters, who helped host the event along with the rest of the Mauds Variety team: Tyler Rawcliffe, Kyle McDougall, Cam Starr, Steph Black, Zoe Smith and Billy-Jean Whiting. “People of all ages were hanging out and truly spending a day at the park.”
Local bands performed from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., including Weird Neighbours, Puce, A Loud Thing, The Swims, Hartlet, Roof Rats and Lovers.
Skate Jam organizers included Chris Lelievre, Kyle McDougall and Jesse Belrose.
