Firearms, drugs seized in Walpole Island bust: OPP

Three people were arrested last week and nearly 30 charges were laid after police discovered multiple firearms at a Walpole Island First Nation residence.

Police say the incident occurred March 31 and involved members of the Lambton OPP Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU), along with members from other OPP CSCU teams, Lambton County OPP Crime Unit, Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Canine Unit.

Police executed a search warrant on Austin Road, where three individuals were taken into custody and multiple firearms were located.

The charges include:

A 41-year-old Walpole Island resident:

- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (five counts),

- Careless Storage of a Firearm (five counts),

- Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking (two counts),

- Possession of a schedule 1 substance (two counts),

- Possession of property obtained by crime, under $5000 and,

- Failure to comply with undertaking

A 34-year-old Walpole Island resident:

- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (five counts),

- Careless Storage of a Firearm (five counts) and,

Careless storage of ammunition.

A 25-year-old Walpole Island resident:

- Failure to comply with release order (two counts).

Two of the individuals (age 41, 25) were held in custody following a bail hearing on March 31. The 34-year-old was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
