Ottawa is contributing $35 million to the new Nova Chemical’s plant and expansion near Corunna.

The investment is coming from the federal government’s Canada’s Strategic Innovation Fund.

The new petrochemical plant and expansion has been called the largest capital investment in Sarnia-Lambton’s history.

It is valued at $2.2 billion and is expected to create 150 full-time manufacturing jobs, up to 1,400 construction jobs, and years skilled trades employment.

It is also expected to generate hundreds of spin-off jobs in other sectors, officials say.

Ontario is kicking in $100 million, the province’s second-largest manufacturing investment in a century.

Site preparation has begun with a plant start-up target of late 2021.
