Lambton County Science Fair, 2023

Organizers of the Lambton County Science Fair are once again putting a call out to local students, encouraging them to submit their projects.

“Few, if any, schools still run their own science fairs,” organizers said in a news release. “The reason usually given is that the curriculum does not give teachers time for other activities.”

Kent County no longer holds a science fair, officials added.

“We’re back in the college again this year, but in the ballroom for both judging and award presentations.”

The fair is open to Lambton County students in Grades 3 – 12, and projects will be

judged under four age categories:

Exhibition (Gradeds 3-5);
Junior (Grades 6-8);
Intermediate (Grades 9 & 10) and
Senior (Grades 11&12)

Certificates and cash prizes will be presented to winners, and the best projects in the intermediate and senior categories are eligible to go to the Canada Wide Science Fair.

"We’re still recovering from the impact of Covid, rebuilding the number of projects,” organizers noted, pointing to 94 projects entered in 2019, compared to just 37 in 2023.

This marks the 50th year for the Lambton County Science Fair since its incorporation.

“We are very fortunate to get the kind of support we do in Lambton County,” organizers added. “Every year almost 100 judges talk to the students about their projects and help us award the prizes.”
