The number of commercial airline flights in and out of Sarnia has temporarily been cut in half.
Due to constraints in its fleet, Air Canada is providing only one flight out of Sarnia Chris Hadfield Airport from Jan. 10 to April 1, says airport manager Clare Webb.
Sudbury, Kingston and some other smaller Ontario airports are also losing one or more daily Air Canada flights, which Webb says coincides with the grounding of the Boeing 737 Max 8.
Air Canada grounded all 36 of its Max 8s following two fatal crashes in a span of five months last year.
Normally, Sarnia is serviced by two to three Air Canada flights using the 90-seat De Havilland DHC-8, or Dash-8 aircraft.
Most of the city’s air traffic is private and corporate, Webb added.
