Concern for public safety has prompted the designation of two ‘community safety zones’ throughout parts of Aamjiwnaang First Nation.

The City of Sarnia approved the zones – to be implemented along St. Clair Parkway, from the Suncor main entrance through to LaSalle Line; and along Tashmoo Road, from Churchill Road to LaSalle Line – at the Jan. 15 council meeting.

City staff are also looking at the possibility of implementing temporary speed bumps on the same stretch of Tashmoo Road.

The safety measures are a response to concerns raised by Aamjiwnaang Band Council regarding motorists speeding on both roads – which are used regularly by pedestrians.

Community safety zones are defined as areas where the safety of pedestrians and community members is paramount. They entail signage and increased fines for speeders.
