Good morning, Sarnia! Start your Wednesday with the latest stories and weather:
Weather alert issued
Environment Canada is warning of ‘torrential downpours’ and heavy rain in the area Wednesday as remnants of Hurricane Beryl move into the region.
A rainfall warning has been issued with rainfall totals of 40mm to 80mm, and torrential downpours giving rainfall rates of 20mm to 40mm per hour at times.
“These types of weather systems can give very high rainfall rates in torrential downpours,” Environment Canada stated, noting that rainfall amounts will likely be highly variable across the region, and some areas may receive in excess of 80 mm. Conditions should improve by Thursday.
“Due to the potential intensity of the storms, water levels are expected to rise rapidly and produce localized runoff,” the St. Clair Conservation Authority stated in a water safety bulletin issued Tuesday. “High amounts of rainfall in a short period of time can lead to pooling on roads and flash flooding.”
