Officials gathered recently at the Sarnia Legion Branch 62 to celebrate a a $150,000 Capital Grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) towards their “HVAC Replacement Project.”

The Legion owned the original Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system which required many upgrades and costly repairs, dating back to the early 1980s, officials noted. Members were recently informed that the HVAC unit was well past its end-of-life date, with parts near impossible to find, and a total HVAC failure was imminent, said Sarnia Legion president Ron Realesmith.

“If we had lost our HVAC system, our building would have needed to close until such time that the funds were raised, and the entire HVAC replacement could have taken place,” he said. “The building would have been unavailable to any user group during this time.

“With the funds provided, we were able to successfully replace all our HVAC equipment, proudly sourced and installed from local union trade labour.”
