A total of 49,065 people in Sarnia Lambton have now received a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and 3,190 are fully immunized with two shots, Lambton Public Health said today.
That represents 45% of the population age 16 years and older having received at least one dose.
Meanwhile, the virus continues to spread. The health unit reported 84 active cases today, highest number in two weeks.
Six outbreaks are under way and 13 people are being treated in hospital.
The local vaccine rollout continues for residents 55 and older, Indigenous populations, chronic home healthcare recipients and some essential workers, including school staff, childcare and foster care workers, faith leaders and farm workers.
Additional groups will be announced soon, beginning with adults 50 years and older expected this week.

A new dedicated Vaccine Call Centre opened this week. It is available Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 226-254-8222.
The call centre is intended for people with vaccine inquiries or anyone having difficulty booking an appointment online.
