Work begins on a splash pad in Point Edward’s waterfront park this month and happy, shrieking children should be playing in the water by next year.

An open house to unveil the plan on July 6 will be followed by a sod-turning ceremony and prep work some time after the Point Edward Optimists’ annual Bridge Bash on July 15-16.

The club committed to raising $100,000 in 2012 and have been banking proceeds from the Bridge Bash to meet that pledge.

Ottawa has offered a Canada 150 grant of $100,000 and the village has earmarked another $150,000 from reserves.

When the new attraction opens next year it will give people one more reason to visit the park under the Blue Water Bridge, said committee chair Carolyn Leaver-Luciani.

“When many partners come together to support a project such as this we can do wonderful things.”
