Residents on Bernard Court will be able to keep their basketball net after city council granted relief from a streets bylaw it violates.
City staff saw the net, installed 18 years ago on the boulevard of the quiet cul-de-sac, as a potential legal liability.
Fourteen of 15 roadside nets identified by staff were taken down after the homeowners were contacted.
But council granted the exemption on Bernard after neighbours signed a petition seeking relief.
The pole and net have never been a problem in the past, are maintained by the residents, provide exercise for children and remain a focal point for neighbourhood spirit and unity, they noted.
