One of the most recognized faces in Canadian comedy is coming to The Imperial Theatre Jan. 19.

Shaun Majumder, award-winning actor and comedian, is swinging through town with his stand-up comedy act. Tickets are nearly sold out.

Majumder might best be known as a cast member of This Hour Has 22 Minutes where he first made his mark as Raj Binder, the sweaty reporter who ambushed athletes and politicians.

His TV career is highlighted by many other roles, comedic and dramatic, including the Farrelly Brothers comedy Unhitched, ABC’s Detroit 1-8-7, and appearances on 24, Cedric the Entertainer Presents and Comedy Central.

Most recently, he’s had a hit documentary series on W Network called Majumder Manor. It follows the progress of his dream to build a resort at his hometown of Burlington, Newfoundland.

Majumder was raised in Burlington, population 350, where fishing and logging were the economic base. As a successful entertainer he would visit from California and decided his hometown’s struggling economy needed to diversify. When he bought property there overlooking the ocean and began to build accommodation, he decided to film its progress.

Along the way, he’s produced a popular series the past two years and put Burlington on the map.

Majumder is also a regular at Montreal’s Just for Laughs Comedy Festival. His stand-up is billed as an evening of wisdom and wisecracks, full of wholesome Maritime values and foul-mouthed observations about life in L.A.

Audiences are cautioned about mature subject matter and coarse language.

Tickets, $54, are available from The Imperial Theatre on Christina Street, by calling the box office at 519-344-7469 or online at www.imperialtheatre.net.
