Traffic Collision Update: Fatal Pedestrian Incident

On Wednesday, October 9, 2024, shortly after 10:14 AM, the Sarnia Police Service and Lambton Emergency Medical Services responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian and a pickup truck at the intersection of Christina Street and George Street in Sarnia.

Upon arrival, emergency responders determined that a 69-year-old male pedestrian from Sarnia had sustained severe injuries after being struck by the pickup truck. Tragically, the victim later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

The Sarnia Police Service – Traffic Services Unit conducted a comprehensive investigation into the incident. As a result,  a 47 year old of Plympton Township has been charged with Careless Driving Causing Death under the Highway Traffic Act. Mr. O’Donnell has been issued a Provincial Offences Summons and is scheduled to appear in court to answer to the charge.

This tragic incident underscores the critical importance of road safety and its shared responsibility. The Sarnia Police Service urges all road users—both drivers and pedestrians—to exercise caution, particularly at high-risk areas such as intersections where pedestrian and vehicle interactions are frequent.
