Peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday June 3, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Hospice in Sarnia ON. Marion passed away a week short of her 99th birthday. Beloved wife of late husband Keith. Loving mother of Donald (Judith), Ann Sawa (Dann), John (Mary), and Jane Ewasko (Evan). Proud grandmother to Andrew (Camille), Thomas (Shauna), Katie, Gillian, Jennifer, Sarah (Mark), Emma (Matt), Grace, Ben and John. Loving great grandmother of Eva. Survived by her beloved cousin Audrey Rosenthal and her sister-in-law Erma Lounsbury. Predeceased by her brother Ross (Joan) Wilson.
Born in Toronto ON. Marion graduated from the School of Nursing at the University of Toronto in the class of 1948. While working for the Medical Department at Imperial Oil in Toronto, Marion was sent to Sarnia for an industrial nursing assignment in 1951. The assignment was to last a month, but before the month was up, she met a kind, young chemist named Keith, and the month-long assignment turned into a permanent position. Marion and Keith were married in the fall of 1952. They settled on the shores of Lake Huron where they raised their children and created a memorable meeting place for friends and family celebrations.
Her favourite domain was her kitchen. She took great pride and pleasure in preparing meals and feeding her loved ones. Her offer of food was her gift of love. Rarely did anyone leave her home without a care package of baked goods.
Marion was an active member of Canon Davis Memorial church. She volunteered in the community for many years with the Cancer Society, Literacy Lambton, the chemo clinic at Bluewater Health and the Gallery in the Grove.
Her love of nature and her faith in the beauty of life were constantly renewed on her annual treks to the family cottage in Algonquin Park.
Marion will be remembered for her kindness, quick wit, pragmatic outlook and fierce love of family.
A special thank you to the caring staff and volunteers at St. Joseph’s Hospice, Sarnia.
A private family interment of Marion and Keith’s ashes will take place at a later date at St. George’s On The Hill cemetery in Islington ON. If desired, sympathy may be expressed by making a memorial donation to the St. Joseph’s Hospice in Sarnia, the ALS Society or a charity of your choice.
