It is with heavy hearts that the family of John Giffels announces his passing in his 76rd year on Sunday, December 3, 2023 at Bluewater Health – C.E.E. following a short battle with cancer. Beloved husband to Gail Giffels for 51 years. Loving father to Charlotte (Daren) Brown and Crystal (Bryan) Hooey. Cherish grandfather to his boys, Tucker and Jonathan Hooey. Step-grandfather to Kevin (Abby) and Laura Brown. Step-great-grandchild Harper. Deeply missed by his fur baby Murphy. Dear brother to Judi Tomsons, Jeff (Lynn) Giffels, Brenda (John-David) MacTavish, David (Tamera) Kriter, Steven (the late Francis) Kriter.
Step-brother to Paula (Art) Hann, David (Sussanna) Schelich, RJ (Heather) Schelich, William Schelich, and Rick (Shirley) Schelich. Brother-in law to the late George (Barb) Morin, Lucy (the late Gerry), Roland (Louise) Morin, Sue (Frank) Goddyn, Lou (Mike) Bida, Paulette (Don) Lloyd. Survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family. Predeceased by his father William (Christina) Giffels, his mother Jacqueline (Dave) Kriter, sister Leigh-Ellen, step-brothers Tim and Michael Schelich, parents-in-law Marie-Ange and Gérard Morin. John work for 32 years with T.M.E. Delta and was a jack-of-all-trades. He was a hands-on type of person who loved to stay busy, and took deep pride in his lawn and everything he did. John loved to talk and was never shy when meeting new people. He had a love for animals, but would deny it when asked. Special thanks to Dr. Angela Wang, Dr. Kim, and Amanda from the palliative team and all the staff at Petrolia C.E.E hospital. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. A burial of ashes to follow in Wyoming Cemetery.
