City Hall has hired a company to begin work on extending the Howard Watson Nature Trail to Lambton College.

The first major expansion of the nature trail will see a new multi-purpose link built along the north side of the Bissel-McArthur Drain.

The east-west trail will provide a short cut for Lambton College students and another trail opportunity for joggers and cyclists.

Sarnia-based Cope Construction was the lowest of six bidders and awarded the contract for $278,000. About 80% is covered by a provincial grant with the rest coming from the city and Bluewater Trails.

Bissel-McArthur Drain is a green corridor located south of the London Road shopping district and north of the College Park subdivision.

The nature trail, which is part of the Bluewater Trails network, runs for 16 kilometres through Sarnia and east to Camlachie.
